Gerhard Richter
He was born February 9, 1932 in Dresden, Germany. After leaving school at the age of sixteen, he started working in the advertising field and as a painter of scenographies and then continued his studies at the Art Academy in Dresden.
In 1964 he organized his first solo exhibition at the Gallery Schmela in Düsseldorf. Until the early 1970 he exhibited frequently in various cities in Europe and the United States.
The artist is known for his photo-paintings and for his complex abstract works, all the works have in common a research about the relationship between illusion and reality.
Gerhard Richter has won numerous awards and prizes.
