Richard Long - Hamish Fulton
Walking Art
26 May - 30 July 2011
Nature has always been loved and recorded by artists. Long and Fulton, the protagonists of Land Art, have rediscovered the direct encounter with the world: the fascination of a long walk in the heart of the countryside, the reality and the vision of concrete contact, unmediated, with the presence of the primordial earth. Land Art, and in particular Richard Long and Hamish Fulton, have made an artistic revolution renouncing the traditional means of representation, immersing themselves in direct contact with the light, earth, water, air and the endless forms of the wind. Art as the essence of an experience, not a representation of this. De Primi Fine Art, with this exhibition, is pleased to pay homage to the choice made by these important members of the Land Art to go beyond the technological barriers to return to the communion with nature.

Gaspar Lopez
painter of princes and gentlemen
17 November 2010 - 15 January 2011
The De Primi Fine Art SA gallery is delighted to announce an exhibition dedicated to the work of the celebrated Italian old master Gaspar Lopez, known as ‘Il Gasparro’ (circa 1650 – 1740). The exhibition opens on 17 November 2010 at the gallery in Piazza Cioccaro 2, Lugano.
The exhibition continues the gallery’s ambitious program aimed at promoting the dialogue between artists and artworks which, whilst coming from different periods and styles, are united by their unquestionable quality .
Gaspar Lopez was a major figure in Italian still life painting, working in both Naples and Florence and this is the first ever retrospective show of his work, making it a fascinating and delightful occasion for lovers of this style of painting.
The works on show- still lifes with flowers- offer us the chance to appreciate the quality of this artist’s work and to comprehend the enormous influence he had on the whole array of painters who followed after him (with results which never quite reached the same heights!) in this art of painting the much-loved subject of floral still lifes.
The works range from his early period to his fully mature period, where we can see his skilful elaboration of the Rococo influence.
Ruins, columns, vases and plates, often with Putti, are covered and used to create floral settings typical of a culture where a frivolous and light-hearted aesthetic was absolutely predominant. The attention to detail in describing the various kinds of flowers became an exercise in painterly skill, a test where Il Gasparo was quite happy to challenge the masters of the previous century.
The catalogue is curated by Professor Alberto Cottino, renowned expert in the field of the Italian Still Life. As well as the works on show, the catalogue contains other images from major museums and private collections, which give us the possibility to compare works and deepen our understanding of an old master who has until now been somewhat neglected by critics.

The artistic journey of Alex Katz is characterized by a constant search for simplicity and immediacy of the forms. The human figure and landscapes, his favourite subjects , are purified of their metaphysical and narrative complexity to achieve the pure presence of the instant represented itself , without interpretation. In his work, in fact, we never found any expressive violence, or social protest or existential concern: Katz likes to present a peaceful and harmonious world through the vision of a moment. Every detail is so fixed in a moment that is perpetuated over time. Katz, immersed in the American art scene characterized by the dominance of Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art, has been able to develop and remain faithful to a very personal painting style. The strongly defined lines of the drawings and research component of the two-dimensional, such a contemporary Paul Gauguin, characterize his works. The fresh colors as well as the storng line fascinate the viewer and stimulate the imagination, but the milestone of Katz's artwork is the search for light (that he wants instantaneous) that is the unifying element of all his creations. This is how the artist's small paintings stand out strongly in their essentials, like some precious jewels that illuminate the walls.
