Giacomelli Mario

Mario Giacomelli (Senigallia, 1 August 1925 - Senigallia, November 25, 2000) was an Italian typographer, photographer, poet and painter.

Giacomelli worked all his life for the "Tipografia Marchigiana" and devoted himself to photography, initially photographing the surroundings of Senigallia, where he lived. He printed proofs from which, using a lens, he was identifying one interesting point to enlarge and then printed it in 30x40 cm format.

His images, always in highly contrasted black and white, are very important throughout the history of photography. In his works, he transforms the reality into ideas and feelings and goes beyond the ongoing discussions between the formalists and neo-realist in the Italian photography.

Giacomelli acquired great fame in Italy and abroad, especially after 1955 and after the MOMA in New York bought his series Scanno, in 1963.
